📚 How to Use the Storyboard Section in Storyboarder.ai (Full Tutorial)

Welcome to the improved Storyboard Section of Storyboarder.ai! Here's a step-by-step guide to help you make the most out of the new features — from generating and editing shots to customizing your board’s style and exporting your final visuals.

🎞️ 1. Duplicating, Deleting & Rearranging Shots

You can manage your storyboard layout easily:

  • Duplicate a Shot: Click the duplicate icon (⧉) above any image to create a copy. You can then edit the new shot as needed.

  • Delete a Shot: Click the minus icon (-) to remove a shot from your board.

  • Reorder Shots: Simply drag and drop any shot to rearrange the sequence of your storyboard.

🎨 2. Changing the Art Style of a Board

Want to try a new visual direction?

  • Go to Change Art Style and select a different Art Style (e.g. "Outline", "Cartoon 3D", "Watercolor").

  • Click Save after selecting the style.

  • Then hit RETRY below the images to regenerate your storyboard in the new look, while keeping your shot descriptions intact.

This is perfect for testing out client preferences or choosing a consistent tone for your project.

🔁 3. Generating New Versions with "Retry"

Each shot comes with a Retry button under the image. Clicking this will:

  • Re-generate a new version of the shot based on the current shot description.

  • Keep the same content and composition, but offer a different visual output — helpful for exploring multiple versions quickly with the small arrows within the image field.

You can retry as often as needed and compare versions.

✏️ 4. Using the "Variation" Feature

For more specific changes, use the Variation button:

  • Click VARIATION under the image.

  • Enter a change prompt (e.g. “She’s wearing a red jacket” or “Add fog in the background”).

  • The tool keeps the original image structure but applies your change precisely.

This is ideal for fine-tuning scenes without starting from scratch.

🛠️ 5. Edit Mode for Fine Adjustments

Click Edit on any shot to enter detailed editing mode.

In Edit Mode, you can:

  • View a larger version of the image.

  • Update or reword the Shot Description, Shot Size, Perspective etc.

  • Access more advanced editing tools (Erase, InPaint, Zoom-In etc.).

This mode is perfect for adjusting narrative and visual direction in greater detail.

📁 6. Uploading Custom Images

There are three ways to upload images into your board:

  1. Simple Upload
Import an image as-is without using AI — great for adding reference art or concept designs directly.

  2. Image-to-Image
Upload a base image that will serve as visual inspiration. AI will use this image as a reference when generating your shot.

  3. Sketch-to-Image
Upload a rough sketch or scribble, and Storyboarder.ai will generate a polished AI scene based on it.

You’ll find full tutorials for both Image-to-Image and Sketch-to-Image in our Help Center or YouTube playlist.

👤 7. Accessing the Character Editor

Need to adjust character appearances?

You can open the Character Editor directly from the Storyboard view.
There, you can:

  • Set detailed character descriptions.

  • Upload reference images for visual consistency.

  • Generate and lock in your preferred look in clothing and accessories'.

Separate FAQ and tutorial articles are available for the full Character Editor workflow.

📤 8. Exporting Your Storyboard

Once you’re happy with your storyboard, you can export it in various ways:

  • Choose between different formats and sizes.

  • Download as a PDF, image set, or animatic.

  • Perfect for presentations, pitch decks, and production prep.

🎥 9. Create a Video from Any Shot

Want to bring your still images to life?

Click the camera icon 🎥 on any image to convert it into a short video or animated scene.
This is great for animatics, mood reels, or quick pitch clips.
(See our video animation tutorial for more details.)
