Introducing the Animatic and Image to Video Feature! 🎥✨

We're going to show you the new animatic and image to video feature. Let's dive in! 🌊

🧠 Storyboarder.ai Tutorial: Creating Animatics with Image-to-Video

In this guide, we’ll walk you through our powerful Image-to-Video feature, which allows you to turn storyboard stills into dynamic animatic videos with audio — using one of the highest quality AI video models available.

Whether you're developing a pitch, visualizing scenes, or creating production-ready animatics, this tool gives you a fast and flexible way to bring your storyboard to life in motion.

🟩 Step 1: Start in Storyboard View

Once you're logged in and working on a project:

  1. Navigate to the Storyboard View.

  2. Hover over any storyboard image.

  3. You’ll see a small camera icon above the image.

  4. Click this icon to open the Video Generation menu.

This menu allows you to turn your storyboard still into a short animated video clip.

🛠 Step 2: Configure Your Video Settings

Inside the video generation panel you can customize how your video will be created.

Video Description

At the top, you will see the Video Description field.

By default, this description is identical to your shot description, but you can edit it to include:

• movement instructions
• character actions
• environmental motion
• cinematic details

Adding specific motion instructions helps the AI produce more accurate and cinematic results.

Dialogue and Audio

Below the description field, you can add dialogue or audio information.

If a character needs to speak, type the dialogue here.

Important:
If multiple characters appear in the shot, add a brief identifier before the dialogue so the AI knows who is speaking.

Example:

John: Catch me if you can.
Sarah: Please wait for me.

This helps the AI assign the dialogue to the correct character.

Camera Movement

Under the dialogue section, you can choose a camera movement template.

Examples include:

• Tracking shots
• Zooms
• Orbit shots

Small previews are provided so you can quickly understand what each movement looks like.

If you prefer, you can skip this step and allow the AI to decide the camera movement automatically.

Video Duration

Next, set the duration of the video.

Keep in mind:

• If dialogue is long but the duration is too short, the result may feel rushed.
• If the duration is very long, it may slow down the pacing of fast actions.

Choose a duration that matches the dialogue and action timing.

⚠️ The maximum video length is 12 seconds.

⏱ Step 3: Generate Videos (Parallel Processing)

Once everything is set, click Generate Video.

Because Storyboarder.ai uses a high-end AI video model, rendering may take a few minutes.

While a video is generating:

• You can continue working on other shots
• Start generating videos for other storyboard frames
• Add additional prompts or camera movements

All videos will render in parallel, so you don’t need to wait for one generation to finish before starting another.

Each generating frame will show a loading spinner and progress indicator.

Even if you leave the page, generation continues in the background.

▶️ Step 4: Preview Your Videos

Once a video has finished generating, a play icon will appear above the storyboard image.

You can:

• Click the play icon to preview the video
• Watch the animation loop
• Pause playback anytime
• Switch back to the original still

If you'd like to try again, simply:

  1. Click the camera icon again

  2. Adjust your settings

  3. Generate a new version

You can also use the arrow controls to return to the original storyboard still before generating a new attempt.

🎞 Step 5: Use Animatic View for Timeline Control

For a full project overview, switch to the Animatic View using the top menu.

This view provides a timeline-based layout for your entire project.

Here you can:

• Preview all storyboard assets (videos and stills)
• Watch your full animatic in the integrated video player
• Adjust shot timing using ERT (Estimated Running Time)
• Rearrange scenes with drag & drop
• Decide whether a shot should appear as a video or still frame

The timeline at the bottom makes it easy to review pacing, rhythm, and narrative flow.

⚠️ Important: Video Length in Animatics

The maximum generated video length is 12 seconds.

If your animatic timeline duration exceeds that length, the video will automatically pause on a still frame at the end.

📤 Step 6: Export Your Animatic

Once you're satisfied with your animatic:

  1. Click Export in the top-right corner.

  2. Choose your export format.

Available export options:

MP4 video (with or without shot descriptions)
XML file for editing in tools like Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve

📁 Additional Details About Exports

Exported files are typically saved in your system's default Downloads folder, unless you have customized your download location in your browser or operating system.

If you have difficulty finding your files, try the following:

• Use your system’s search bar to find recent downloads (e.g. .mp4 or .xml)
• Check your browser’s download settings
• Open the Downloads folder in Finder (Mac) or File Explorer (Windows)

✅ Final Notes

This feature allows you to:

• Turn storyboard stills into moving cinematic shots
• Add dialogue and audio directly into your videos
• Quickly build complete animatics
• Previsualize your project before production begins

Storyboarder.ai is built by filmmakers, for filmmakers, giving you powerful tools to move from idea → storyboard → animatic → production.

So jump in, explore the tools, and most importantly — have fun bringing your vision to life. 🎬
